Highlight Tasks that are behind schedule on a Gantt Chart in Microsoft Project

There are times when you might want to draw attention to tasks that are late (i.e. tasks that are behind schedule) when compared against their baseline finish dates, i.e., tasks with Finish Variance greater than zero (0), for example in a 14-day, 30-day or 90-day lookahead schedule.

This YouTube tutorial assumes a baseline has been set and the schedule has been updated (with actuals and forecasts).

The Bar Styles setting to achieve the View above is shown below.

For 1st Late Task Bar Style (for tasks)

  1. Show For … Tasks: Normal

  2. From: Baseline Estimated Finish

  3. To: Task Finish

For 2nd Late Task Bar Style (for tasks)

  1. Show For … Tasks: Milestone, Active, Not Group By Summary, Not Manually Scheduled

  2. From: Baseline Estimated Finish

  3. To: Task Finish
